Cryogenics

The SAHMRI Cryogenics Facility stores samples from laboratories conducting research in several and varied areas including cancer, diabetes, nutrition, heart health as well as several clinical trials.

The Facility has six 94k vapour-phase cryogenic tanks with the potential to store over ½ million samples and comprises:

  • Alarm monitoring and auto filling, ensuring sample integrity
  • Vapour phase storage with no exposure to Liquid Nitrogen
  • Sample tracking through OpenSpecimen database

Services of the Facility

SAHMRI Research Support Officers collect, handle, store, retrieve and distribute samples to research groups as well as provide Liquid nitrogen and Dry ice training for new users.
